The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, has issued a fresh flood alert to people living within the banks of river Niger and river Benue as a build-up in water levels that could trigger floods.
The agency in a release on Thursday indicated that records from monitoring stations show fluctuations in water levels which have been attributed to the release of water from Lagdo dam in Cameroon and the dams in Jebba, Kanji as well as intermittent rainfalls.
Sensitization of downstream communities in Niger and Kogi states according to the statement has commenced.
However, people living along the riverbanks have been advised to take necessary precautions by leaving floodplains and ensuring that drainage systems are cleared of all encumbrances.
